BAY SHORE - Police say a partially dismembered female body was found Tuesday morning in Bay Shore.

Suffolk police say two people walking to the Fire Island Ferry called 911 at around 6:50 a.m. after seeing the body in a weeded area near a municipal lot at the corner of Maple Avenue and Gibson Street.

Authorities would not reveal the victim's age or say more about the condition of the body.

They spent the day investigating the lot and surrounding areas.

Suffolk police claim there are no links between the body found in Bay Shore and the Gilgo Beach murders. However, officers did search the Gilgo Beach area Tuesday in order to be thorough.

Police took the body to the Suffolk Medical Examiner's Office so they can determine how she died.

Anyone with information about the homicide is urged to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
