Police: Off-duty Nassau detective Alfred Samaniego killed in Carle Place crash

An off-duty Nassau detective was killed in a crash on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place early this morning. Police have identified the detective as

ELMONT - An off-duty Nassau detective was killed in a crash on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place early this morning.

Police have identified the detective as Alfred A. Samaniego.

The incident happened at around 1 a.m. near an exit ramp by exit 31 on the Northern State Parkway. The ramp was closed for hours, but has since reopened.

Police say Samaniego's SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed into a tractor-trailer.

No one else was hurt.
