HUNTINGTON STATION - Police have arrested an Old Brookville woman after they say she left her baby daughter in a sweltering car while she went shopping today.According to authorities, Aimee Rachlin, 26, went to a Kmart in Huntington Station while her 13-month-old child was sitting in the back of her black Mercedes with the windows barely cracked and the doors unlocked. Police say more than a half-dozen passersby who had spotted the little girl waited until officers Robert Musial and Anthony Iadevia responded. In the meantime, they opened the doors to give the baby some air. When police arrived on the scene, the child, who was sweating profusely, was immediately removed from the car and placed in an air-conditioned cruiser. According to investigators, when Rachlin came out of the store, she told them she had only been in there for a minute and was coming right out.

When News 12 Long Island reporter Christine Insinga knocked on the door to Rachlin's home to get her side of the story, she was met with a glass of water thrown in her face.Rachlin has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, but released on bail. The 13-month-old girl remained in Rachlin's custody, but police say Child Protective Services has been notified of her arrest.
