Police: Mob attack at Lake Grove playground injures 2 teens

LAKE GROVE - An attack that happened in broad daylight at a Lake Grove elementary school playground landed two teens in the hospital over the weekend, police say. Investigators say a dispute between kids from Sachem North High School and Centereach High School apparently led to the attack on Saturday. The mother of one of the victims says her 18-year-old son had gone to Wehnonah Elementary School to play soccer with friends. She says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, because there was supposed to be a fight going on at the playground. The woman says a group of about a dozen people attacked her son and his friend with pipes and bats. Her son was hospitalized with his jaw bone broken in two places.Suffolk police say eight people have been arrested in connection with the attack, including 18-year-old Jesse Schwenker and his 50-year-old father, Thomas Schwenker.
