VALLEY STREAM - Police met with Valley Stream and Lynbrook residents Thursday night about public safety following a string of recent sex attacks against women.

Last month, a woman was assaulted inside her Lynbrook home while another was targeted on her way home from the LIRR station in Valley Stream. On Labor Day, another woman was raped and beaten in Valley Stream State Park.

Community leaders gathered with police to help ease local concerns, but residents say they still fear for their security.

Authorities say they've stepped up patrols in the area.

Nashane Peterkin, 16, has been arrested and charged in connection to two of the incidents. Detectives say he was also arrested in 2011 for a pair of sex assaults in Queens.

If convicted, Peterkin could face up to 25 years in prison.
