Police: Meadowbrook Parkway reopened 6 hours after 2 men fatally struck

Police: 2 dead after Meadowbrook crash (March 4, 2013)

NORTH MERRICK - Authorities say two people are dead after a crash on the Meadowbrook Parkway earlier today.

State police have confirmed the accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes near exit M6. They say the victims' car was disabled on the shoulder when the men, who were outside the vehicle, were struck by an oncoming pickup truck.

Detectives say the driver apparently failed to notice that the parkway merged from three lanes down to two.

Investigators say there does not appear to be any obvious criminality. The parkway has  been reopened after remaining closed for around six hours.
