ROOSEVELT - Police are trying to track down the would-be abductor who tried to snatch a baby from his mother in Roosevelt today. The incident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. at the corner of Nassau Road and West Centennial Avenue. Police say the young mother had her baby boy strapped to her chest in a baby carrier when a man ran up and tried to grab the child. Police have not said whether the mother fought the man off, but he fled the scene empty-handed. Investigators spent the afternoon interviewing witnesses at the scene.The suspect is described as a black male, about 35 to 40 years old, with a skinny build. Police say he was wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt and a black jacket.Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
