CARLE PLACE - Investigators believe a knifepoint robbery Tuesday inside a Carle Place Subway restaurant is connected to a pattern of robberies in the county where the assailant is armed with a machete or knife.

Nassau police say the incident is the fifth in a pattern of robberies over the last six weeks. They say the offender's face is always completely covered during the robberies.

"He had a knife and told me 'give me the money, open the register,'" says Jawad Kahn, who manages the Subway shop. "It was a big, sharp knife."

Investigators believe the same man has hit sandwich, doughnut and ice cream shops. They say he has fled each robbery with cash and has never hurt anyone.

Suffolk police are investigating if a similar robbery at a Subway in Copiague last week is also related to the string of incidents.

Police say all of the robberies happened after dark, until Tuesday. Kahn says it was still daylight when the armed person came into his store.

The subject is described as 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a dark waist-length jacket, light-colored cargo pants and a dark scarf covering his face.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this incident call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
