LONG BEACH - An Island Park mom faced a judge Thursday after police say she crashed her car while overdosing on heroin.

Police say Kristie Steele left her 8-year-old son home alone Wednesday morning and went to buy drugs.

They say the 31-year-old shot up on National Boulevard in Long Beach then hit a storage unit in front of the firehouse with her car.

Police and paramedics found Steele unconscious and administered Narcan to revive her.

Police say two envelopes of heroin were found inside the car.

According to police, Steele's son was found safe at home and is now with his grandparents.

Steele was arraigned on charges including driving high and driving without a license.
