RIVERHEAD - Police say a would-be burglar was shot in Riverhead over the weekend by a homeowner who is a veteran corrections officer.

Police say it happened at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday on Old Farm Road. The homeowner, John Kwasna, found 33-year-old Thomas Anderson, of Riverhead, inside his home, investigators say.Officials say Kwasna shot Anderson in the shoulder before he fled the home. Anderson was arrested by police a short time later, and is now recovering from the gunshot wound in the hospital.
