MATTITUCK - Police are searching for an armed robber who held up a well-known East End ice cream shop Friday afternoon.

Southold Town police say a gunman entered Magic Fountain Ice Cream and demanded that an employee give him money from the register.

Police Chief Martin Flatley says the suspect lifted up his jacket and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.

Police say the suspect got away with an undetermined amount of cash, despite the fact that responding officers arrived less than a minute after the 911 call.

The shop's surveillance cameras were rolling at the time and police are hopeful the video will lead to an arrest. Chief Flatley says they were able to come up with "very good pictures" of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Southold detectives at 631-765-2600.
