GREENLAWN - Police say they arrested the hit-and-run driver accused of injuring two women and abandoning a puppy in Greenlawn last October.

Investigators say 26-year-old Alvaro Alfaro, of East Northport, struck a vehicle with his Ford Explorer on Oct. 13 2013.  The crash seriously injured driver Sulma Rivas, of Brentwood.  Rivas’ passenger, Maci Castro, suffered minor injuries.

The crash took place at the intersection of Park Avenue and Lantern Street.

According to police, Alfaro fled the scene on foot and left a puppy in his Explorer.

The uninjured animal was turned over to the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter.

Alfaro faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with serous injury, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and circumventing an interlock device.
