Authorities say a 23-year-old Hicksville woman died after she was shot in the head inside a Westchester apartment.

Police say the victim, Meghan Bookstaver, was shot at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday in Tarrytown. Bookstaver was allegedly at the home of her boyfriend, Eric Gaughlin, and looking at rifles when one discharged.

Police have not yet determined who fired the gun, but have ruled out suicide as a cause of death. They have not called the incident a homicide or accidental death, only calling the death "suspicious."

Officials say there were two men in the room at the time of Bookstaver's death, but police would not confirm that Gaughlin was one of them.
