FRANKLIN SQUARE - Police say a Franklin Square man picked up a woman's dog as she was walking it and threw it into the street during an argument.

Officials say Barbara Bottiglieri was walking her 1-year-old Dachshund down Robin Road in Franklin Square when 56-year-old Jamie Sanchez came out of his house, angry that her dog had defecated on his lawn.

Bottiglieri says she showed Sanchez that she had collected the fecal matter with bags, but says he kept screaming at her.

Police say that when Bottiglieri threatened to call the police, Sanchez picked up the dog and hurled it into the street, injuring it.

Sanchez was charged with animal abuse and reckless endangerment. He was also ordered to stay away from Bottiglieri.
