COPIAGUE - A Copiague man is out on bail tonight and claims he was unfairly Tasered by Suffolk County police last night.

In cell phone video exclusively obtained by News 12 Long Island, three Suffolk County police officers can be seen on top of 21-year-old Jeu Gonzalez.

Gonzalez's friend told News 12 she locked her keys in her car last night around 6:30 p.m. at a Copiague deli on Dixon Avenue when he came to help.

The young woman says that for no reason, police pushed Gonzalez to the ground, held him down and started hitting him. Gonzalez's friend recorded the incident on video.

Suffolk police told News 12 that officers were driving around the area and spotted Gonzalez yelling on the street and giving the middle finger. Police say that when they pulled over and asked Gonzalez to show them his identification, he threw it at the female officer, cursed at her and made a lunging move toward her.

According to police, the female's partner intervened and they tried to take Gonzalez into custody, but he resisted arrest. Another unit responded to the scene, and three officers were able to control Gonzalez.

The Suffolk County Police Department says department guidelines allow use of a Taser any time a suspect resists arrest and there's a threat to assault an officer or escalate a situation.
