Police: Female jogger attacked in Old Field

OLD FIELD - Suffolk police say a woman was attacked and sexually assaulted while jogging in Old Field Tuesday. According to investigators, the 23-year-old victim was running along North Grey Road at around 6:30 a.m. when she passed her attacker, who grabbed and groped her. Detective Lt. Greg McVeigh, of the Suffolk County Police Department, says the attack lasted about 10 seconds because the suspect was scared off by a passing motorist who stopped and picked up the victim. Police say the attacker was last seen running south on North Grey Road. He is described as a man between 17 and 21 years old and about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin-to-medium build.Meanwhile, local residents are questioning why investigators notified the public about the assault only two days later. McVeigh, however, says it wasn't until late last night that officers were able to gather all of the information on the incident.
