Police: Edgar Martinez-Marquez brought air gun to Commack High School

Police say Edgar Martinez-Marquez was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. (3/18/13)

COMMACK - Police say a Commack High School student brought an air gun to school today.

Authorities say they were called to school today after 17-year-old Edgar Martinez-Marquez was spotted picking up an air gun on his way to school and bringing it into the building.

"The student was identified, questioned by police and the student's locker was searched," a statement on the school district's website says. "The police removed an airsoft pellet gun that they later deemed was inoperable. The student was arrested."

Students say it was hard to focus throughout the day because officials weren't telling them anything.

Parents say they were contacted by the school shortly after the incident.

Martinez-Marquez was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. He was released on an appearance ticket.

School officials have not said what disciplinary actions, if any, have been taken.
