SMITHTOWN - Investigators say they've busted a major New York City-based drug ring that supplied heroin to young users in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Detectives say they have seized over 8,000 bags of heroin, plus an additional 5 kilos of the drug, more than 2.5 kilos of cocaine and six loaded weapons within the past few days. Prosecutors say they've charged 121 of the supplier's drug buyers, including 90 who were based in Suffolk and 15 in Nassau. Law enforcement officials say the drug ring turned the Long Island Expressway into a "heroin highway." They say that buyers would head down the LIE into the city to pick up drugs on the cheap, and then bring the illicit substances back onto the Island for their young clientele.
