HOLBROOK - Police say a 22-year-old man who was driving high on drugs crashed into a woman in Holbrook and then left the scene, only to be later tracked down by investigators. Neighbor Diana Parente says she was standing outside of her house yesterday morning when a man driving an Audi came barreling around a bend on her block. She says the driver slammed into her neighbor, who was standing outside of her son's car at the time. The victim, 73-year-old Arleen Gucciardo, was crushed in between the two cars. Parente says she quickly called 911 and tried to stop the driver, but he took off. Gucciardo was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with serious injuries to her legs and face. Police say they were able to track down the driver a short time later in the Brookhaven area. Brandon Bondar, 22, of Centereach, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while ability impaired by drugs, according to officials. He pleaded not guilty today and is due back in court next Friday. Gucciardo remains in serious condition at the hospital.
