RIDGE - Police arrested a driver who they say was high on prescription drugs Saturday when he fell asleep and crashed into a tree, killing two teens who were in his car.

According to officials, at the time of the crash, 20-year-old Thomas Smith, of Ridge, was driving on the William Floyd Parkway on his way home from Six Flags Great Adventure with his four friends in the car.

Police say Smith's girlfriend, 19-year-old Jacqueline Salvador, of Ridge, and 17-year old-Ryan Baumgartner, of Rocky Point, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Investigators say Salvador's 17-year old brother was airlifted to the hospital. Smith was not injured and flagged down a sheriff's deputy for help. A 16-year-old girl who was in the car also escaped injury.

According to officials, Smith did not drive all the way from Six Flags, but got behind the wheel after they dropped a friend off. He's charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. He's expected to be arraigned Sunday.
