ELMONT - Police say they were called out this evening in Elmont to a possible domestic dispute that turned into a three-hour standoff.

Officials say they were called to a home on Crown Avenue because a man allegedly got into a dispute with his wife.

When police arrived they found the wife was no longer home, but she said her husband had a number of guns in the home, according to investigators.

"When officers confronted him the communication that took place almost implied that he was making threats against the police," says Detective Lt. Kevin Smith.

Officials say the man said he felt he did nothing wrong and would not come out. A standoff ensued and lasted about three hours.

Police say the man eventually surrendered and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. They have not determined if any charges will be filed.
