Investigators say they responded to a report of shots fired at around 11:35 p.m. on Wilson Boulevard and found a man had been shot to death.

CENTRAL ISLIP - Suffolk police say they are trying to track down the gunman who shot a Central Islip man to death last night.

Investigators say they responded to a report of shots fired at around 11:35 p.m. on Wilson Boulevard. Police arrived at the scene to find the victim, who has been identified as Derrick Mayes, lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Mayes, 21, of Lowell Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to call the Suffolk Police Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
