Police: Dante Taylor, of Mastic, arrested in murder of Medford mother Sarah Goode
WOODBURY - Police say there has been an arrest in the murder of the young Medford mother whose body was found dumped in the woods last month.
Police say 19-year-old Dante Taylor, of Mastic, was arrested Thursday in Florida for allegedly killing Sarah Goode.
Taylor was picked up in Florida by U.S. Marshals two days ago on an unrelated arrest warrant for an alleged rape, police officials told News 12.
Taylor was arraigned Saturday in Central Islip and pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. Goode's friends and family members assembled in court ahead of the arraignment Saturday morning. Some had to be restrained and taken out of the courtroom as the grisly details of the murder were discussed.
Prosecutors said that Goode was hit so forcefully that a metal object lodged in her skull.
The body of 21-year-old Goode was discovered by a search party in a wooded area of Medford exactly one month ago, several days after she was reported missing. Her car had been found parked on the side of a road not far from where her body was found.
Prosecutors say her car had bloody hand prints on it belonging to Taylor and Goode. They say both DNA evidence and cellphone pings link Taylor to the crime.
Goode's sister, Lizzy DeMuria, says she meant the world to her, and she wants to see her sister’s killer brought to justice.
Newsday reports that Taylor had served in the Marines from September of last year through this April, although the reason for his discharge is unclear.
Taylor is being held without bail until his next court appearance on July 17. Prosecutors say they may upgrade the charge to first-degree murder at that time.
Goode's family held a vigil Saturday night at Smith Point Beach to thank the volunteers who searched for her.
