AMITYVILLE - Police say they're classifying the death of a 4-year-old Amityville boy as a homicide.

Police say they received a 911 call at 3:49 p.m. Wednesday in which the caller indicated that an ambulance was required for a small boy at an apartment on Ketcham Avenue. Police are now searching for the caller.

When police arrived, they discovered a young boy, identified as Adonis Reed, lying unconscious on a couch in the living room. Detectives say he was a clear victim of violence and had bruises on his body when emergency crews found him.

Officials say no adults were present in the apartment when first responders arrived.

Officials say the boy and his 6-year-old sister were living at the home with adults, but their relation to the children is not clear. The 6-year-old girl is now in custody of child protective services.

An autopsy was performed on Reed this afternoon.
