ISLANDIA - Suffolk County police say they have found the missing little girl who was seen running down a residential street in Islandia last night.

According to police, the 6-year-old was found unharmed, and a referral to the Suffolk County Child Protective Services has been made.

Police were searching for the girl after a 911 caller reported seeing a little girl running westbound down Bergen Street toward Split Cedar Drive at around 11:20 p.m.

The caller said the child was alone and wearing white pajamas and no shoes.

Police units responded to the scene and after interviewing the male caller, two canine units and aviation were called to assist in a search for the child.

Additionally, the Code Red System was activated, whereby all residents within a half-mile radius of the scene were contacted by phone to notify them of the search.

It remains unknown why the child was wandering the streets alone.
