DIX HILLS - A teen has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly attacking his mother in their Dix Hills home, where the suspect’s 15-year-old brother was also found dead.

Charles Okonkwo Jr., 18, was arraigned yesterday in court.

Police received a call from Charles Okonkwo Sr. Saturday at around 6 p.m. after he arrived home from a hospital stay in Huntington.

Assistant District Attorney Raphael Pearl says the father discovered his 15-year-old boy’s body in his upstairs bedroom. He says Okonkwo Sr. then found his wife, Chinwe, in a pool of blood next to her car in their garage. She was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and is in a coma after suffering severe head injuries.

Pearl says there is no identified motive for the assault yet. He said there was “some psychiatric issues with the defendant."

Pearl told the judge that Okonkwo Jr. admitted to police that he hurt both his mother and brother.

Okonkwo Jr. may face additional charges pending the outcome of his brother's autopsy. He is due back in court on July 24.
