NORTH MERRICK - Police are trying to track down the burglars who made off with cash from two buildings located on the grounds of a church in North Merrick. Investigators say that the intruders broke into a pastoral building and a school building at Sacred Heart Parish sometime overnight. The school building has sat empty since June, when it was shuttered as part of a consolidation plan. Contractors have been working on the school building. The break-ins were discovered at around 8 a.m. today. The pastor of Sacred Heart says there was some damage done to both of the buildings, but he declined to elaborate. Police have not said how much money the burglars made off with. The Archdiocese of Rockville Centre says that police are investigating and has declined to comment further.
