ELMONT - Police are looking for the gunman who fired a bullet into an Elmont home with a family inside.

Authorities say three people were in the home when the bullet penetrated a window, passed through a wall and wound up in the closet of a bedroom that belongs to an 11-year-old boy.

The homeowner says his wife was watching TV around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when she heard a popping sound and an alarm in their house went off. He then discovered the bullet holes in the window and wall.

The man says his son was sitting on his bed watching football when the bullet came to rest in his closet. He was uninjured.

The boy's father didn't want to speak on-camera, but says he is grateful his family is OK.

Neighbors were stunned at news of the gunfire.

Police believe it was a random shooting and say the family was not targeted. No arrests have been made.
