EAST MEADOW - Nassau police are investigating after a body was found behind a synagogue in East Meadow.

Police say they received a call at around 3:45 p.m. about a man who was walking and stumbling near Temple Emanu-El on Merrick Avenue, just south of Hempstead Turnpike.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the man behind the temple unresponsive.

He was later pronounced dead. Police have not released the man's name.

Nassau County Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lack says there were no obvious signs of trauma to the man's body.

Police say the death doesn't appear to have anything to do with the temple.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
