SEAFORD - Police say a Seaford man who was pulled over for a traffic violation turned out to be storing a cache of assault weapons and drugs in his home.

Police say they stopped 29-year-old Jonathan Erler on Seamans Neck Road yesterday after he was spotted driving while talking on his cell phone. The officer spotted a flintlock rifle and some marijuana in his car, so a search warrant was issued for Erler's home.

Police say they found six illegal assault weapons, Chinese throwing stars, more than a pound of marijuana and five ounces of concentrated cannabis in Erler's home. The weapons were hidden in a secret compartment under his bed.

Police say Erler is the owner of the Twisted Glass head shop in Wantagh. The store sells a variety of pipes and tobacco, but police searched the store and say they found nothing illegal.

News 12 Long Island has previously reported that Erler's shop was burglarized and the suspects were just put into prison. Police say the latest charges are unrelated to that case.

Erler is facing numerous drug and weapons charges. He was freed today on $11,000 cash bail.
