Police arrest 3 in West Islip hit-and-run

WEST ISLIP - Suffolk County police say they have arrested three people in the hit-and-run of a 16-year-old in West Islip.

Police say 25-year-old Kristofer Busching was behind the wheel of the 2012 Chrysler 300 that struck Ryan McCarthy on Dec. 31. Busching, of North Babylon, was charged with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, conspiracy in the fifth-degree,criminal mischief and petit larceny.

Nineteen-year-old passenger Carlo Caamano and 23-year-old Alicia Santamaria were also arrested. Caamano was charged with hindering prosecution in the second-degree, conspiracy in the fifth-degree, criminal mischief and petit larceny.

Santamaria, Busching’s girlfriend who police say was not present when McCarthy was struck, was charged with hindering prosecution in the second-degree and conspiracy in the fifth-degree.

McCarthy sustained head injuries and has been in a coma since the accident. Police say McCarthy is still in critical condition.

All three suspects are due in court in Central Islip on Monday.
