STONY BROOK - Police are beefing up patrols near Stony Brook University after two students were robbed Tuesday night.

Authorities say the students were targeted off campus in separate incidents. The first student was robbed near Stony Brook Road and Memory Lane by a suspect wearing a black and white mask. The second student was robbed near Route 25A and Thompson Hay Path by someone wearing a green and red clown mask.

Detectives say no weapons were used in the crimes, but that the suspects made off with the victims' backpacks and cash.

Parents say they're concerned by the reports, and will be extra vigilant while trick-or-treating with their kids this Halloween.
