HEMPSTEAD - Police say they've arrested two suspects in a string of purse-snatchings that have traumatized Nassau shoppers for the past few days.

According to officials, Alfonso Zitoli, 29, of Massapequa, and his girlfriend, 30-year-old Veronica Sarabella, of Deer Park, are now in police custody.

Detectives say the pair started their snatching spree on Tuesday, and by Saturday, they had struck nine times, stealing a total of about $1,000.

One victim says she was dragged by the suspects' car as they stole her pocketbook in parking lot.

Officials say Zitoli has a previous criminal record and is being held on $1.4 million bond. Meanwhile, Sarabella is reportedly going through heroin withdrawals at an area hospital.
