RIVERHEAD - Police say 14 people were arrested after two major drug rings were dismantled on the East End.
District Attorney Tom Spota says the two rings operated in Riverhead and Southampton. Investigators say one of the drug networks distributed heroin and the other distributed cocaine.
Prosecutors also say many of the 14 arrested were Bloods gang members, including Jerome Carey and Jimmy Dean, the alleged leaders of two separate sects.
Spota says they seized heroin, cocaine, packing materials, a mini-press for compacting drugs and a loaded shotgun. He says there will be at least 40 more arrests soon in connection with the case.
The district attorney said that in the last month, authorities have seized nearly 6 kilos – or 13 pounds – of heroin and cocaine.
