Police: 1 killed, 4 hurt in Southern State Pkwy. crash at exit 24

NORTH BELLMORE - Police say slick roads and excessive speeds are to blame for an accident on the Southern State Parkway that killed one person and injured another four.

Authorities say a Toyota 4Runner ran off the parkway just east of exit 24 on the Southern State Parkway at around 4:30 a.m. yesterday. They say the 35-year-old was dead upon arrival.

Neighbors say the vehicle jumped the guardrail, managed to break two trees on the way down and came to rest near the backyard of a home.
