HEMPSTEAD - Police say a young man was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in the Village of Hempstead.

Investigators say several shots were fired around 5:40 a.m. on Laurel Avenue. The 23-year-old victim was found lying on the sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Investigators say they believe the shooting was targeted and they are looking into whether it was possibly gang-related.

Police say no arrests have been made and the shooting remains under investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
