POINT LOOKOUT - A solemn sunrise ceremony is being planned in Point Lookout for this Sunday on the anniversary of Sept. 11.

Ten years ago, residents say they looked west and could see the Twin Towers crumble to the ground. Organizers of the ceremony say during the tribute this weekend, residents will stand on the sand and look east together as a sign of new beginnings and the transition from mourning to hope.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray says thousands of people are expected to attend the beachfront memorial. Each person will get a carnation and an American flag before crossing a bridge overlooking a reflection pool and a 30-foot steel beam from one of the towers.
