MINEOLA - A judge accepted a plea deal today from Kayla Gerdes in the 2010 manslaughter of Dr. Rebecca Twine Wright.
Gerdes admits she was high on prescription drugs when the van she was driving struck and killed Twine Wright, 69, in April of 2010. Twine Wright was mowing her front lawn when the collision occurred.
The judge says Gerdes will likely serve six years in prison. She will be formally sentenced in July.
Twine Wright's family tried to convince the judge not to accept the deal.
