Plane lands in surf near JFK after taking off from Farmingdale

QUEENS - Police say a single-engine plane that took off from Farmingdale landed in thesurf not far from John F. Kennedy Airport tonight, but all three peopleaboard are reported safe. It's not clear what caused the plane to go down at about 7 p.m.Monday in the waters off Rockaway near Beach 56 Street. Twopassengers and the pilot were pulled from the plane by NYPDemergency crews. There were no injuries. The destination was not immediatelyknown. It was not believed to be headed for the airport. NYPD harbor and aviation crews responded to the scene.
