Pilfered pooch statue back home safe

GARDEN CITY - A beloved mascot statue used by a local business has found its way home in Garden City after an alleged thief returned it after seeing a report on News 12 Long Island.

Police say surveillance video had captured the alleged crime when Winston, a giant wooden dog, was taken from outside the Woofer Wash nearly three weeks ago.

Authorities told Winston's owners that a woman had kept the statue in her car and covered him with blankets. The woman who allegedly stole Winston agreed to drop him off at a random location if no charges would be filed.

The statue is now back at the Woofer Wash.
