Penn State trustees fire Paterno, university president

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and the university's president have been fired over the sex scandal involving a former assistant coach. Students flipped

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and the university's president have been fired over the sex scandal involving a former assistant coach. Students flipped a TV news truck in a near riot on campus last night after the firings were announced.

Yesterday, Paterno, 84, said he would retire on his terms at the end of the season. However, Penn State's Board of Trustees decided Paterno has to go now.

University President Graham Spanier was also fired.

The pair is being criticized for not calling police when they were told former assistance coach Jerry Sandusky was allegedly molesting little boys at Penn State's football camps.
