FREEPORT - Police say a woman was hit by a car as she tried to cross the street in Freeport.

According to police, the 57-year-old unidentified woman was crossing the intersection of West Merrick Road and Elm Place when she was hit by a Nissan Altima.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries to her head and face. The woman is listed in serious but stable condition.

No charges have been filed.
