PATCHOGUE - Patchogue-Medford has become the first school district on Long Island to double recess time for elementary school students.

The Patchogue-Medford district officials say they want to improve its approach to educating children and offset all the testing and classroom time.

The district has decided to double the recess time of kids from kindergarten to fifth grade to 40 minutes a day.

In addition, they have also added yoga and meditation for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
