PATCHOGUE - A Patchogue man has spent years racking up the mileage on his red Volvo, driving himself into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Irv Gordon says he purchased his car for $4,100 in 1966 and that it still gets 27 miles per gallon. The mileage has been useful as the school teacher has driven nearly three million miles across the country to break the world record.

Gordon says his trusty car still has the same engine and transmission as the day he bought it and that it's ready for his next road trip.
