PATCHOGUE - The old Plaza Theatre on East Main Street in Patchogue was torn down today after years of neglect.Local residents yelled and cheered as the decrepit building crumbled to the ground. Neighbor Janet Amatulli says the theater had long been an eyesore in the community.Officials say the demolition marks the beginning of the revitalization of East Patchogue."We're going to keep working to make sure this whole thing happens," says Legislator Jack Eddington (I-Medford).Still, some remembered the good times they had at the theater, such as Barry and Jean Alpert, of Copiague, who say they had their first date there in 1967.

The theater building is expected to be leveled in the next five-ten days.
