QUEENS - A Long Island Rail Road train was stuck just outside of the East River Tunnels in Queens for almost three hours Thursday night.

The 10:39 train from Penn Station to Babylon stalled at section of track called the Harold Interlocking.

Passengers who were on the train say that it lost power and air conditioning. "It was really hot, getting dangerously hot," says one passenger, Jason Reidy. "Some of the people took the windows out of one car."

An LIRR spokesman says the train was held up by a switching problem and that passengers were eventually switched to another train to Jamaica Station.

The halted train lost power and air conditioning, prompting sweltering passengers to vent on Twitter as LIRR workers handed out bottled water.

Railroad officials say there were no medical issues during the holdup.
