JONES BEACH STATE PARK - A section of Jones Beach and some nearby parkways have reopened for the first time since Sandy struck.

Officials say Field 2 and West End Field 2 are now open. The Wantagh and Meadowbrook parkways have also reopened.

The boardwalk and many other areas of Jones Beach are still closed, including Field 6, Central Mall and the Jones Beach Theater. Still, Deputy Regional Parks Chief George Gorman says he's amazed at the improvements made from just a week ago.

Officials hope to completely reopen Jones Beach by Memorial Day weekend. Until then, Gorman urges the public to stay away from closed, dangerous areas.
