DEER PARK - Parents and students in Deer Park are on high alert this morning after two students reported being followed by suspicious vehicles.

Police say a girl was followed to her bus stop by two men in a black four-door sedan last Friday. Another girl says she was followed by a small maroon car last Thursday. Both girls are students at Robert Frost Middle School.

The school district has notified parents and Suffolk police say they have boosted patrols in the area.

Several concerned parents who spoke with News 12 Long Island are convinced that the drivers are convicted sex offenders living at the Deer Park Motor Inn, about half a mile away from a school. According to the state's sex offender website, at least one registered offender lives there, but the Town of Babylon says there are none at the inn: one offender recently moved away and is being monitored by police.

Parents who spoke to News 12 Long Island say they plan to follow up with the town about more safety measures.
