Parents shocked after Smithtown pre-school suddenly closes

SMITHTOWN - Parents in Smithtown are shocked and upset after the pre-school they had been sending their children to closed without any notice today.

The First Discovery-Montessori School, a school that costs upward of $1,000 a month per student, had only a note on the door saying it was closed. The school had been open for 18 years.

Adding to the shock, many of the pre-schoolers were only weeks away from their moving up ceremony to kindergarten. Many of the children are upset they won't get to see their friends or say goodbye to their teachers.

Wendy McCarthy, the school's owner, refused to comment on the closure.

Smithtown School District Ed Ehmann says the district's PTA will host a moving up ceremony for the children on June 13.
