NEWTOWN, Conn. - Among the numbness in Newtown following the shooting, News 12 Long Island spoke with Erica Canfield, the mother of a 4th-grade student who was in the school at the time.

She said when she found out there was a gunman in the school, all she could think about was getting her son out and bringing him home. However, she also works in a high school down the road and was under lockdown.

Canfield went on to say that she felt helpless during the whole ordeal, and didn't even find out about the severity of the incident until she had already gotten her son home.
